How and how much to irrigate
At first the most convenient method for irrigating wild cherry is by submersion. This method consists in creating a basin around the base of the tree, so as to contain the necessary water without dispersion and with greater control. The wild cherry is a plant that does not need a lot of water, as it resists very well both to the winter cold and to the summer drought, however it does not grow well in too humid soils. For this reason, the quantity of water and the constancy in irrigation must depend on the good sense of those who take care of the tree. On average, we can water it every two days, even if there is no fixed rule to follow. We can know if our plant needs water by checking the soil; if it is still too wet it is not necessary to add more water, instead if it is dry then you need to water it.
How to cultivate
The most suitable period for planting the wild cherry it goes from October to April, you have to grow it freely for a year. Afterwards it will be possible to access pruning. To plant the wild cherry we must buy the bare root plant and place it in a hole about 60cm deep and just over a meter wide. Once planted we can give a first watering through irrigation by submersion. If necessary, we can arrange a brace, so as to support and accompany the growth of the plant. The pruning of this tree must be carried out in a particular way, for this reason we recommend having it done by experts. During the first few years, we only remove the dry branches and damaged parts. The harvest of the fruits, the cherries, takes place towards the summer, from June to July.
