The production of wine from white strawberry grapes is allowed only for family use and in small quantities. It cannot have the denomination of wine but only of drink. The import of this grape began to be imported from North America, to replace the European species which at that time were going through a difficult period due to the many phylloxera epidemics. The North American grapes, on the other hand, did not suffer under the attack of the larvae of the butterfly and this thanks to the so-called "rootstock methodology" which cause the butterflies to cause damage only and exclusively to the root of the plant. The production of wine is not allowed for a decree that was introduced in Europe at the beginning of the twentieth century, which was aimed at the protection of the grape species of the continent.
Cultivation and pruning
Strawberry grapes in general, and therefore also the white one, is characterized by a very sweet taste of its berries, in the same way, its aroma is intense. The plant has large, opaque leaves and characterized by a slight fluff especially at the bottom. The bunches, on the other hand, are medium in size. This typology is characterized by very good black resistance to a high number of diseases and also tolerates low temperatures well. It has difficulty growing in soils with a large presence of limestone. The multiplication of the plant is obtained thanks to the cutting and only in a few cases by grafting. Being a tendentially climbing plant, it must be helped with supports. Pruning must be carried out in February and it can be done every year or every two years.
